We started as a bookkeeping firm in 2009. Almost seventeen years later, we’ve grown into something different: a financial partner for business owners who want more than clean books, they want clarity they can actually lead with.

Clean books are the floor here, not the ceiling. Once your numbers are accurate, our work is helping you understand what they’re telling you, and standing beside you as the decisions get bigger: hiring, pricing, growth, what’s next. We work with founder-led service businesses and nonprofits who are ready to stop guessing and start deciding with confidence.

Michelle Mitchell, Founder & Fractional CFO

Michelle spent ten years in corporate finance before she started Mitchell Consulting in 2009, and she started it because she wanted business owners to have a financial partner she never had access to herself: someone who explains the why behind the numbers, not just the what. She’s spent nearly seventeen years since making sure no client walks into a conversation about their finances feeling behind or judged for not knowing something yet. Michelle believes calm communicates confidence, and she brings that into every client relationship, whether the numbers are messy or the decision on the table is a big one.

Evan Asher, Accounting Manager

Evan has been with Mitchell Consulting for eight years, working directly with clients to build financial systems that actually hold up as their business grows. He earned his degree in Accountancy in 2012 and has spent his career since making sure business owners without a finance background aren’t left guessing at how their numbers work. Evan builds real relationships with the clients he works with, and he brings the same care outside the office: he’s active in Kalamazoo’s local art scene and works with a local nonprofit that addresses diaper need in the community.

Lauryn King Darden, Business Advisor

Lauryn has more than a decade of accounting and auditing experience, including an MBA from Hampton University and time at a top accounting firm and a real estate investment trust before she found her way to nonprofit and political campaign treasury work. She’s spent her career since focused on the organizations she believes need strong financial guidance the most: nonprofits and local business owners building something real in their community. Lauryn leads client advisory work at Mitchell Consulting, helping business owners understand what their numbers mean for the decisions in front of them.

Eric Blocksidge, Accountant

Eric earned his MBA from NYIT in 2013 and has worked across billing, corporate finance for a multi-billion dollar company, and just about everything in between since. That range gives him a practical, ground-level understanding of how finances actually work inside a growing business, which is exactly what he brings to Mitchell Consulting’s clients. Outside of accounting, Eric has sung in an insurance commercial, lived in Paris for a few years (ask him for French recommendations), is aiming for a Jeopardy appearance someday, and will defend New York pizza to the end.
