From Mindset to Money

Setting goals isn’t a new idea, especially in business. You probably have revenue goals, programming or service goals, and goals related to the number of people you want to serve through your business. All of those are great and necessary things, but as entrepreneurs, we can’t focus only on those external goals and ignore internal things like mindset and passion.

As an entrepreneur, you are the heart and soul of your business. If you aren’t connecting with your passion consistently, you will experience burnout and your business will suffer as a result. So, as a reminder for you to take a second look at the goals you’ve set for yourself and your business, here are two suggestions to add to your list of goals so you can show up better for yourself and your business.

  1. Work on your Money Mindset. How you relate to money has a big impact on your finances, both personal and business. Your money mindset develops over time. You probably hold some beliefs about money today that were developed during your childhood. Your money mindset falls into one of two categories: scarcity or abundance.

A scarcity mindset believes there isn’t enough money to go around. You might believe you cannot change your current money situation because you may be focused on limitations. On the other hand, an abundance mindset provides you with an understanding that there are plenty of resources for everyone to achieve what they desire. A key principle of the abundance mindset is positivity––you can always be moving in a positive direction towards growth and possibility. Believe your finances can be abundant and you are halfway there.

  1. Know your Why. When the going gets tough, you must remember the motivation behind your business. Every action you take in your business should be focused on your why. After a year as challenging as 2020, it’s easy to get discouraged and lose track of what you are working toward. However, if you know why you do what you do, you’ll feel more confident in your work and that will be reflected in your business.

For me, I started my business almost 11 years ago because I wanted to contribute to my family’s income and be there for my children. That “why” has driven me to keep working and growing my business, even when it’s difficult. I’ve found that having my own business and creating success for myself has made an impact on my children. Understanding the why behind starting my own business changed my life! Now, my passion and mission is to help other women learn how to generate their own incomes for their families and be there for their children in the way they want.

Building a Better Foundation for Your Business

Building your business on a strong foundation from the beginning saves so much time and energy as you grow. I help my clients start building a better foundation using several simple habits and principles. Here are a few of my favorites:

Cast your vision. As adults, we don’t spend enough time dreaming about our futures. Creating a vision for your business helps you develop the future you’re trying to create. Most business owners I work with are afraid to clearly state what they really want for their business down the line. Your vision statement should be so clear that it leaves no room for fear!

Set goals. Once you have a clear vision, you can make it tangible by breaking it down into bite-sized steps. These are your goals. Assign these to each quarter and then break those down even further for weekly action steps. Track what you’re doing to make sure you’re progressing toward your vision each week.

Schedule CFO days. As a business owner, you aren’t just the CEO of your business, you are also the Chief Financial Officer, or CFO. It’s important to set time aside regularly to stay on top of the finances of your business, even if you have someone helping you. You can use the financial data you collect during this time to make better decisions for your business.

Price your services for profit. Pricing is such a struggle for many business owners I talk to. Usually when a business owner feels they are not making enough money or they are having cash flow issues their issues actually stem from their pricing. You may be under-charging for your services if you don’t understand all the costs of actually delivering the service to your client, if you don’t understand the value your client places on the service, or if you are comparing yourself to others and undervaluing your own skills and experience.

These are just a few principles for a better business foundation. I love working with entrepreneurs to develop these and create a solid foundation that easily allows for growth.

We talk about all of these things and more in my coaching programs, but right now I’m offering a mini-course on Pricing for Profit. For just $27, you can learn better pricing strategies, how to implement them, how to up-level your pricing without affecting your current clients, and more! Sign up now before the offer expires!

Vision Is Different Than Goals

Happy New Year! And welcome to a new decade! Are you excited about what this new year will bring? Excited about where your business is going? I know I am! Our theme this month is vision. In order for 2020 to be an extraordinary year, you need to have a vision.

Your vision is where you want to go, where you want to be in the future. A path that helps you to see the steps you need to take to get to your desired destination. But vision is different than goals.

Goals are simply milestones of the action steps you need to take to make your vision a reality.  Your daily activities help get you to your goals, but it’s your vision that guides your path.

Remember 2019? When you didn’t have enough clients? Or your engagements weren’t profitable? Or you charged by the hour and when the client saw the bill they freaked out? Don’t let this happen in 2020! Create the vision, then set the goal and create action towards it.
