How to Develop a Growth Mindset

Share Post:

They say you can be your own worst enemy. That certainly can apply to your business. Sometimes the thing holding you back the most from business growth is yourself.

So what’s making you hold yourself back anyway? The likely answer is, fear.

Fear that your success won’t last, that you’ll get stuck, that because things aren’t running perfectly, you’re somehow doing it wrong. Well I’m here to ease your mind about all of that.

If you’re worried about other factors stopping your business from growing, try my other blog Why You’re Still Struggling to Grow.

What you think of as a successful business is oftentimes a lot of smoke and mirrors. On the surface, they might look like a well-oiled machine but they can still be messy behind-the-scenes. Plus, they’ve had to build up to their glossy exterior. I have no doubt that they’ve gone through worse phases and still have days where things are a little crazy. Try not to let that illusion fool you into believing your business is lesser.

The difference between your business and theirs is confidence. Because of this confidence,

  • they’ve opened themselves up to bringing in staff and contractors to work in genius zones that the CEO doesn’t possess
  • that CEO does the job of a CEO instead of wearing every hat
  • they also have enough faith in their business that they’re willing to invest more up front in order to reap the benefits in the long run

These are the keys to growing your business, yet you’ve probably shied away from doing these things out of fear. By holding yourself back, you’ve been denying the growth you’ve always wanted.

Tackling fears about your business is tricky. It’s easier said than done but just like with any sort of confidence building, it takes time. Time and knowledge. You have to build trust in yourself (tips for that can be found in my blog Your Beliefs About Yourself Shape Your Business), trust in others to deliver quality results, and trust in your business and pricing model.

Just now, you’ve already taken the first step towards conquering your fear: acknowledging it. Once you get beyond fear, there is success on the other side!

I know there is, because I’ve been there. I’ve done it. I didn’t know if I knew enough information to start a business. But because I was a professional, I did know something. Having the support of family and friends helped me step out of my comfort zone and start my own business.

It’s been 11 years now, and I am so grateful that they helped me through that process. Now, on the other side of success, they help me celebrate that success.

So find your support system and start making some moves. There’s freedom beyond that fear.
